JEA Protective Measures

At Jackson Energy Authority, proactive measures and programs are put in place to ensure that the water we deliver to our customers and community is the safest, highest quality water that meets or exceeds all Federal and State drinking water standards.

To continuously safeguard our water, Jackson Energy Authority follows a Corrosion Control Program where during the treatment process, naturally occurring substances are added to the water. Calcium Hydroxide (lime) is added to reduce the pH balance while Phosphate is added to chemically stabilize the water and prevent the release of metals into the water from corrosion. While these measures protect the water that gets distributed to homes and businesses, any iron, lead or copper contaminants can be present from materials used in the premise service line, premise plumbing, and fixtures.

Long before the EPA ban on lead materials, as an investment in safety and structural reliability Jackson Energy Authority proactively adopted a policy to discontinue the use of any lead service line materials and to find/replace all known lead service lines. Efforts to improve this investment included the development of a lead service line verification and replacement program.
