Water System Sanitary Survey Perfect Scores

For the fourth consecutive time the Jackson Energy Authority has earned perfect scores for both the JEA Water System and the Mercer Water System.

The unannounced and onsite audit and survey, conducted every two years by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Division of Water Resources, involved inspection and evaluation of every facet of the water systems.

Conducted in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Sanitary Survey Manual, the inspection consisted of a records review to document operational performance from November 9, 2022 to December 5, 2024. The full system review included source water, treatment, distribution, finished water storage, pump facilities, monitoring, reporting, management, and operation and operator compliance.

The survey objective was to ensure the delivery of reliable and safe drinking water in the JEA and Mercer Water Systems.

Eddie O’Neill, Water/Wastewater Operations Manager, noted that water systems require operational work 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. “We have a team dedicated to high standards of water quality and safety.  It’s an honor for their professional work and commitment to be recognized by the State of Tennessee.”

Senior Vice-President of the Water Division, Robert Mullins, added, “To be recognized officially with a perfect score is an honor and testament to the excellent work by our employees. I am proud of what this perfect score means to our employees and to our customers whose use our water with confidence every day.”

Monte Cooper, President/CEO of JEA, credited the dedicated work of employees for the perfect score, noting their commitment, vast system knowledge and work expertise.

The TDEC fourth consecutive perfect score of 599 reflects the consistent JEA Water System performance over the past eight years.

Included in the audit and evaluation are the Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports for both systems.  That report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) contains a summary of results from thousands of tests for specific contaminants, unregulated monitoring data, and other drinking water information.  The reports are available online at www.jaxenergy.com/jeaccr.
