APPA Safety Award of Excellence 2024

The American Public Power Association (APPA) has awarded Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) the prestigious Safety Award of Excellence for 2024, recognizing their commitment to safe operating practices. This accolade highlights JEA's dedication to employee health and safety as a core value.

The APPA Safety Awards evaluate utilities based on incident-free records and safety culture, considering all work shifts. The incidence rate, as defined by OSHA, indicates the number of work-related injuries or illnesses relative to worker-hours. In 2024, JEA electric teams worked a total of 238,058 hours. JEA earned the Diamond award in its category for exemplary safety records.

The awards have been promoting safety for more than 66 years, with over 200 utilities participating for 2024. APPA serves as the advocate for not-for-profit, community-owned utilities across the U.S., ensuring safe and reliable power distribution.

“Harnessing electricity to keep our communities powered is vital work that can be dangerous, even deadly, if the proper attention isn’t paid to tried-and-true safety practices,” said Jon Beasley, Chair of APPA’s Safety Committee and Vice-President of Electric Cities of GA. “This award honors utilities that hold fast to these practices and – in doing so – put the safety of their personnel and their customers above all else.”
