Understanding Your Bill.
Your utility bill is based on the amount of utilities that you use. Your bill will reflect usage, how much you owe for each utility, your total owed by the due date, and the amount owed if you pay after this date. Information on your bill will help you track your utility usage over time. You can compare your current use with the amount you used a month ago and a year ago.
Your usage will vary from month to month due to:
- The number of days in the billing period. Although we try to read your meters on the same day each month, holidays and weekends can cause a longer or shorter billing period.
- Changes in the weather.
- The number of people in your home.
You may find other charges on your bill in addition to electricity, gas, water, wastewater, and broadband services.
"City garbage collection" is a charge from the City of Jackson for picking up your garbage. As a convenience to City residents, Jackson Energy Authority acts as a billing and collection agent for the City garbage service. Call the City Sanitation Department at 731-425-8545 or the City Hotline at 731-425-CITY if you have questions about garbage service.
You also may be billed for merchandise or other services from Jackson Energy Authority. For example, we will provide a pole and security light for your yard for a monthly charge.
Do we estimate your bill?
A locked gate, unfriendly animal, or severe weather may prevent us from reading your meter during a particular month. We then estimate your bill based on our records of your past usage. After we read your meters the next month, your bill will be corrected to reflect actual usage.
