Why does Jackson Energy Authority prune trees on private property?
Customers rely on Jackson Energy Authority to maintain reliable power. Some customers may even need the power to maintain medical devices. Jackson Energy Authority has the legal right and responsibly to trim limbs away from the power lines.
What trees will be pruned?
Most trees that are closer than 10 feet to Jackson Energy Authority electric facilities (poles, wire, guy wire, transformers).
Who will be doing the work?
Jackson Energy Authority only contracts with highly qualified and licensed tree care companies. Work is inspected to make sure that it meets our standards.
What if I have more questions?
Please call Jackson Energy Authority at 422-7500. Representatives will be glad to do an onsite visit. If crews are working, please don't approach within 25 ft of a work site. This helps us to keep the work site as safe as possible.
Can I be present when trees are trimmed?
Jackson Energy Authority will do everything within reason to accommodate these requests.
What if I don't want Jackson Energy Authority or their contractors to trim my trees?
You may hire a private contractor, at your expense to prune trees to Jackson Energy Authority specifications. Please contact Jackson Energy Authority at 422-7500 (Monday-Friday) to sign a form that includes guidelines and the date the work must be completed by.
How often will trees be pruned?
Trees in the power space are pruned every three or four years. Some trees will require more frequent trimming but these are the exception rather than the rule.
What can I do to help?
- Understand why tree pruning is vital for reliable power for yourself and your neighbors.
- Plan ahead before planting trees. Choose a low growing tree if planting near overhead lines. Contact us to obtain recommendations regarding types of trees that are power line friendly.
How can I get additional information on Jackson Energy Authority's tree trimming and vegetation management policies or make comments/suggestions?
